What Music Looks Like - Martin Klimas, 2011

“Like a 3-D take on Jackson Pollock, the latest work by Klimas begins with splatters of paint positioned on a scrim over the diaphragm of a speaker. Then the volume is turned up. For each image, Klimas selects music—typically something dynamic and percussive, like Stockhausen, Miles Davis or Kraftwerk—and the vibration of the speaker sends the paint aloft in patterns that reveal themselves through the lens of his camera.”

The Obliteration Room - Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama constructed a large domestic environment, painting every wall, chair, table, piano, and household decoration a brilliant white, effectively serving as a giant white canvas. Over the course of two weeks, the museum’s smallest visitors were given thousands upon thousands of colored dot stickers and were invited to collaborate in the transformation of the space, turning the house into a vibrantly mottled explosion of color.

Mulberry Leopard Print Bayswater
Was very disappointed when it was discontinued but had the pleasure of convincing a lovely guy to get it for his wife for Christmas. He also got his friend the bright pink bayswater, which I love as well. Absolutely gorgeous... sigh.

I think its amazing that this bag wasn’t a hit until Grace Kelly was photographed wearing it in Cannes in 1956. I like it because it has a great shape and there's something really feminine about it.

At first I didn't really like these, but they've grown on me - my favourites are the all black and the black and tan. I've also seen a beautiful bright pink nano one which I would die for!

YSL Cabas Chyc bag
Saw this in Selfridges first and then came across it loads on people's blogs and on lookbook. It is perfect - you can dress it up or down and I love the shape. Gorgeous.

A classic bag. This one is fabulous in pebbled orange.

Miu Miu Glitter Satchel
Because who doesn't like a few sequins? It feels lovely too, all the sequins go opposite ways so its all different colours. Really pretty and girly - good for day and night.

I have always loved Kate Spade, and all their bags at the moment are stunning and really summery. They have two new(ish) shops in London which I really want to visit.

Another glittery bag, which I like in all the colours I've seen it in - which is a lot.

Prada Saffiano Leather & Canvas Bag
Another classic bag with gorgeous detailing.

Of course there are many many more, but these are definitely some of my absolute favourite bags that I would get if I was rich/a secret heiress/won the lottery. A girl can dream...

Untitled (Portrait of Ross in L.A.) - Felix Gonzalez-Torres, 1991

From the Art Institute of Chicago:

Felix Gonzalez-Torres produced work of uncompromising beauty and simplicity, transforming the everyday into profound meditations on love and loss. “Untitled” (Portrait of Ross in L.A.) is a representation of the artist’s partner, Ross Laycock, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1991. The installation is comprised of 175 pounds of candy, corresponding to Ross’s ideal body weight. Viewers are encouraged to take a piece of candy, and the diminishing amount parallels Ross’s weight loss and suffering prior to his death. Gonzalez-Torres stipulated that the pile should be continuously replenished, thus metaphorically granting perpetual life.

Aqueous Electreau water art by photographer Mark Mawson

Photographer Mark Mawson drops different hues and densities of paint to water to create complex kaleidoscopes of colour he describes as "alien".

"Aqueous Electreau is the fourth in my Aqueous series, which I had the idea for after watching milk being poured into coffee. I was intrigued by the way the milk swirled and blended with the coffee and produced interesting shapes."

"I had seen lots of ink in water images but I wanted to produce images which had more 'body' to them and so I experimented using paint."

"The images I produce evoke the feelings of being in an alien or underwater environment or akin to falling down a rabbit hole into some strange world."

"I get asked a lot how I produce the images. I have worked on my technique for five years and keep it somewhat a secret as to how I actually produce the images. Producing the images is a very time consuming and laborious process but the images make it all worthwhile."

Mark has been nominated for the 2012 London Awards for Performance and Art in the photography section.
