What Music Looks Like - Martin Klimas, 2011

“Like a 3-D take on Jackson Pollock, the latest work by Klimas begins with splatters of paint positioned on a scrim over the diaphragm of a speaker. Then the volume is turned up. For each image, Klimas selects music—typically something dynamic and percussive, like Stockhausen, Miles Davis or Kraftwerk—and the vibration of the speaker sends the paint aloft in patterns that reveal themselves through the lens of his camera.”

Top, L-R:

1. Miles Davis

2. Paul Hindemith

3. Pink Floyd

4. Kraftwerk

5. Charlie Parker

6. Grace Jones

7. J.S. Bach

The XX Vs. Deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember Shelter (Austin Eterno Mashup)

I've been a busy bee this week, working and trying to get myself prepared for my diploma in dance instruction. Next week I'm going down to Oxford for an English afternoon which I'm really excited about, I'm driving down with my grandad (who is quite deaf) and my mum so that should be fun journey, filled with arguments about who can do the best scouse accent or something stupid (which did actually happen today).

What are you all doing next week?

Friday Inspiration

Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor quote and one of my favourite summer songs Miami - Foals, even though the weather in England is anything but summery at the moment.

Lucy Rose - Middle of the Bed

I honestly think I am turning into an old woman. With no more sixth form, all I do is watch Loose Women, eat, clean and iron. The house is a bit tidier and the dog is getting lots of nice walks, so I guess its a good thing. You'll know I've really gone crazy when I cook something that's actually edible, but for the moment I've given up on trying to cook after I set fire to a tea towel making pasta (which I overcooked) whilst I was on the phone.

Friday Inspiration

Today I was really happy to see my old cello teacher, Catherine. I've been meaning to play again and have been neglecting my poor cello for ages. She's a fantastic teacher who has taught me since I was about 7 and has really inspired me to play again. So, I'm taking myself off to the music shop tomorrow to spend my vouchers I got playing in concerts over the years. I'm getting a tuning fork because I no longer trust our piano and a black hole because playing on my carpet is a nightmare. Catherine's given me loads of her old music so I'm looking forward to getting stuck into them over the summer. I love playing, it just chills me out and makes me so happy. Most people have something musical within them and I thinking stopping playing would be something I'd regret for the rest of my life!

Photo of Venice taken by BeersandBeans, breakfast, Grace Coddington with one of her two cats, Bart and Pumpkin, and Yo-Yo Ma playing Bach's Cello Suite No. 1, one of my favourite pieces of music played by a fantastic cellist.
